Chapter 712 Even though she'd never actually met her eldest brother, just hearing Inez talk about him, Citrine could feel how much he doted on her.

He must be a wonderful brother.

A small spark of anticipation flickered inside her-she found herself wanting to meet him.

Everyone seemed excited about the news, everyone except Monica and Wade.

Gorman was Monica's biological brother, but they were only half-siblings, and their relationship had never been particularly close. Gorman rarely showed much warmth; his perpetual sternness had always made Monica a little uneasy around him.

In fact, Monica felt much closer to Wade, her uncle's son, than she ever did to her own brother.

As for Wade, he and Gorman couldn't be more different. While Gorman was a prodigy from a young age- exceptional at everything and hailed as a genius- Wade was always goofing off, chasing after stray cats and dogs, never taking anything seriously. The contrast between them was stark; Gorman barely acknowledged Wade's existence, as if even looking at him might somehow sully his own eyes.

Naturally, Wade despised Gorman right back-he hated his holier-than-thou attitude and arrogance, and growing up, Wade had pulled more than a few pranks on him, both openly and behind his back.

But right now, Wade couldn't care less about any of that. At this moment, his only concern was that Gorman would cback and try to steal his sister's affection.

Gorman had always been annoyingly proper, but he'd had a soft spot for Citrine ever since she was little. Whenever Wade tried to get close to her as a kid, that jerk would swoop in, scoop her up, and carry her away, leaving Wade-smaller and powerless-no choice but to watch his big brother monopolize his little sister. Pulling Citrine aside, Wade whispered urgently, "Listen, you've got to promisewhen you see our big brother, you can't just forget about me, okay? You have to share the love." Share the love? Citrine's lips parted in surprise, and before she could respond, Monica jumped in. "He's right, Citrine-you have to promise us." Just as Monica finished, a thought struck her, and she added, "But Citrine, you should know, our brother has grown colder over the years. No matter what happens, just be careful when you meet him, okay? Wade nodded earnestly. "Monica's right. He's changed a lot these past years. Honestly, he givesthe creeps now-I can't even meet his eyes anymore." After all these years, and having never met her brother before, it was only natural that Citrine trusted Monica and Wade more than anyone else.

She looked at them both and said sincerely, "Don't worry. I'll be careful." By now, more guests were arriving, invitations in hand.

After congratulating Herschel and presenti

their gifts, the guests scattered-sfound seats, while others, restless wandered off to the garden or out onto the terrace.

Citrine was standing on the terrace, gazing out at the view. She had to admit, the hotel's scenery was m breathtaking. From here, she could see the most beautiful stretch of Crestwood Lake, the water glowing under the setting sun. It was impossible to tear her eyes away. She was lost in the moment, when suddenly she overheard a conversation nearby.

Two people were chatting, and she caught mention of the Saunders family's eldest son.

"You haven't heard, have you? The eldest son of the Saunders family is back in town. He's coming tonight for Herschel's birthday."
