Chapter 75

That means Christopher is alone in the apartment now? He must be quite lonely, especially on a holiday like this.

Hailey thought.

Hailey pursed her lips slightly. “Are you at hnow?

Christopher replied with a low hum. “I haven't eaten yet. My leg’s been a little sore, so | don’t have much of an

appetite for dinner.

“How can you skip dinner?” Hailey frowned. “Just stay at home, I'll cover now”

“Now?” Christopher hesitated. “It's quite late already, and it's New Year's Day. It might not be the best idea for

you to go out

“It’s okay. Just wait at home,” Hailey said.

With that, she hung up.

“Are you going to see Christopher?” Isaac walked over, his brow slightly furrowed, his face showing clear

disapproval. This might lead to misunderstandings.”

Hailey smiled helplessly. “Isaac, do you think I'm that stupid? Going to a man’s house in the middle of the night?

That would look bad on me. I'm going to ask Owen to accompany me.”

Isaac relaxed his furrowed brow. “Good.”

Hailey texted Owen before she asked, “By the way, Isaac, why did you tellto be wary of Christopher just

now?”

Isaac pursed his lips. “Although Christopher deserves sympathy, you need to know that someone like him cares

most about himself. His interests cfirst, so you can’t fully trust him.”

Hailey understood. She nodded at Isaac, “I know, kaac. Thank you for reminding me”

“Good,” Isaac smiled. “And one more thing, since you're seeing Mr. Calhoun, you need to keep an appropriate

distance from other men. This distance I'm talking about isn’t just friend-zoning him, but you really shouldn't be

alone with any other

“You're overthinking things, Isaac. Owen isn’t that petty or jealous,” Hailey said.

Isaac raised an eyebrow. “Anyway, Ive warned you. | don’t know about the matters between you two, but it’s fine

as long as you think he won't get angry. However, if it ends up affecting the Dalton family, | won't let you off”

Although Isaac said this, Hailey knew he was just messing with her.

Owen would not bring trouble to the Dalton family, and Isaac would not do anything to her either.

Hailey smiled. “Got it, Isaac. Everything's fine with Owen and me. | promise.”

Just at that moment, Owen called.

His rich and husky voice reached her ears. “Hailey. I'm outside the Dalton Mansion.”

“What are you doing here?” Hailey asked as she looked at Isaac and gestured toward the outside.

Isaac gave a slight nod and waved at her.

Hailey quickly ran out of the mansion

The wind outside was strong. She was wearing a light pink down jacket, and in her rush, she had not put on a

scarf, so the cold wind was blowing straight at her neck

At that moment, Owen was just stepping out of the car

The navy blue coat on Owen's tall, lean form heightened his already cold and distant demeanor

When he saw Hailey, warmth filled Owen's eyes, cutting through his usual cold demeanor, as if a crack had

appeared in the armor of his composure.

Owen rushed over, draping his coat around Hailey. Though he was tempted to scold her, he could not bring

himself to do it. He asked helplessly. “Why aren’t you wearing a scarf?”

Hailey stuck out her tongue playfully. “I forgot”

Owen lightly tapped Hailey on the forehead, guiding her into the car and turning on the air conditioning

“Have you eaten dinner?” Owen asked.

Hailey nodded. “I ate so much! The food was amazing, especially the gnocchi! | have to learn how to make them

tomorrow!

Owen listened with a soft smile, watching Hailey chatter on excitedly.

Owen used to dislike when people rambled on about trivial things, but with Hailey, he seemed to throw all

principles aside.

“What did you eat tonight?” Hailey asked.

“Gnocchi too. My grandma insists on eating gnocchi on New Year's Day,” Owen said.

“What kind of gnocchi do you like? Hailey asked, her eyes sparkling

“Im not picky, but | do prefer the vegetarian ones Owen said.

too” Hailey said.

“We are indeed a match made in heaven! she thought

Owen's expression turned serious. “You're going to see Christopher?”

At the mention of this, Hailey was reminded of Isaac’s warning. She explained, “Yes, Christopher called me. He

said that Linda isn’t around, and that he’ll be alone for New Year's Day.

“It's fine if | didn’t know about it, but now that I do, | can’t just let him spend the holiday by himself, especially

when he hasn't had dinner yet”

Hailey had explained things clearly, but Owen was still unhappy.

“I don’t like Christopher, Owen said.

As a man, he was naturally sensitive to the presence of a love rival

Christopher could hide his affection for Hailey from others, but it certainly could not fool Owen

“I know.” Hailey said with a playful smile, leaning on Owen’s arm and looking up at him with bright eyes. That's

why | called you to cwith me.”

Owen raised an eyebrow, his tone still serious “What if I'm busy? Are you going to go alone?”

“How can that be! If you don’t go with me, I'll just send someone else over. After all, | have a boyfriend now. How

can | be

alone with another man behind my boyfriend's back?” Hailey said

Owen finally smiled. “Not bad. You've got the right mindset”

“Of course,” Hailey said, smiling back at him.

“But I'm still not happy.” Owen said.

Hailey immediately grew nervous. “Then what do you wantto do?”

Owen looked at her for a moment before he said, “Get engaged toin July next year”

Hailey was stunned. “Why are you suddenly talking about this?

“It isn't a spur-of-the-moment decision. I've been planning this for a while, Owen said calmly. “Tjust couldn't find

the right tto tell you, Hailey. But | want to do this sooner, | want the world to know that | want to marry you.”

Hailey pursed her lips and said, “Alright, let's get engaged.”

Owen's smile deepened. “Once you agree, there's no turning back.”

“Got it,” Hailey said.

Owen then started driving toward the city center.

A short while later, snow began to fall outside.

This was the first snow of the year, and it was exceptionally beautiful.

Unable to resist the sight, Hailey opened the car window a little, staring at the falling snow.

Their car arrived at the complex, but they could not drive in, so they parked and walked the rest of the way.

Because they did not bring an umbrella, snowflakes had accumulated on their clothes when they reached

Christopher's door.

When Christopher opened the door and saw them, he paused, a moment of stillness passing over him.

He could almost picture Owen and Hailey growing old together.

For an instant, a sense of sadness washed over Christopher, a feeling he could not quite put into words.

He quickly hid it behind a smile, “What's all this fuss? Why did the two of you ctogether?”
