Chapter 454 Causing a Commotion
Michael's face was dark and cold as he spoke, "Aren't you gonna look into this more? There's clearly something
off here."
Michael couldn't wrap his head around why the Emerald City police would just take Dean's word for it and let
Sophia go. They were letting a murderer loose, putting Emily in danger.
The Emerald City police definitely didn't want to cross Michael.
He was a big deal at Smith Corporation, and more importantly, the police department had gotten funding from
Mason before.
But still, rules were rules, and the law was the law.
Without enough evidence, they couldn't keep Sophia at the station.
"Mr. Smith, | get where you're coming from. We've done a thorough investigation, and from what | know, Sophia
is Emily's sister. She said so herself. Since Sophia is Emily's sister, it's a family matter.
"There's a saying that even a fair judge can't resolve family disputes. Maybe there's smisunderstanding
here? We can help mediate, but that would require Emily and Sophia to sit down together, and we..."
Before the officer could finish, Michael cut him off, clearly frustrated. "Their issues can't be fixed with just a few
words from you!"
The fact that they couldn't hold Sophia made him furious and helpless.
He started blaming himself. Since he had suspected Sophia from the start, why hadn't
he kept a closer eye on her? Why hadn't he gathered evidence? Why had he let her roam free until now?

"As cops, you should be digging for the truth! Letspell it out for you, she might be Emily's sister, but she's
just her half-sister, an illegitimate child."
In his desperation, Michael nearly shouted at the officers, not caring about the onlookers.
Just then, Sophia cout of the room. She knew her release was thanks to Dean, so she was grateful and now
deliberately leaning on his shoulder, acting all sweet.
Dean enjoyed this, a smirk on his face.
But suddenly, they heard Michael outside, spilling Sophia's background.
Hearing Michael's words, Sophia got furious, while Dean's interest was piqued. Both of them turned to look in
that direction.
"Michael!" Sophia couldn't let Michael talk nonsense in public.
Especially with Dean there, these words were bad news for her. She had no idea what else Michael might say, so
she hurried to stop him.
"Enough already!" Sophia stepped forward and grabbed Michael's arm. "Are you trying to ruin me? What did |
ever do to you? Yeah, you're my brother-in-law, and of course, you're on Emily's side, but the cops won't just take
your word for it. You heard what my boyfriend said earlier.
"I've never harmed Emily. So what if we're half-sisters? We still call the sman 'Dad.' We're blood relatives!"
Sophia's acting skills were top-notch, and she knew how to play the part.
Michael was momentarily stunned, but Dean spoke up, his eyes filled with disdain. "Let's go. Don't waste your
breath on people like him."
With that, Dean smiled deliberately.
He wrapped his arm around Sophia's shoulder, strutting as if to show off to everyone.
But Michael wouldn't allow Dean to provoke him so openly.

Emerald City was the Smith family's territory.
Even if it wasn't, an outsider had no right to act so arrogantly, especially while holding his former woman.
With that thought, Michael stepped forward, grabbed Dean by the collar, and with brute force, yanked him
forward, pushing Sophia aside and pinning Dean to the ground.
"What are you doing!"
The series of actions happened so quickly that by the teveryone reacted, Dean was already a defeated mess
under Michael's control.
Sophia, pushed aside, twisted her ankle in her high heels. She wanted to call for police help, but they didn't dare
do anything to Michael.
"How can you act like this! Is there no law in Emerald City? I'll sue you!" Sophia was furious, but the more she
screamed, the more intense the pain became.
She couldn't get up, and Dean, pinned down, had lost all his previous arrogance. He couldn't fight back and lay
there, panting heavily.
Perhaps realizing the situation was getting out of hand, a few officers stepped forward to intervene.
But they were just as afraid of Michael as they were of their highest-ranking officials, so they didn't push too
hard.
Michael knew he couldn't override the law, but he could punish Sophia in his own way. After all, he hadn't caused

Michael's grip was controlled; he hadn't lost his mind completely.
Seeing that Dean was no longer able to fight back, Michael stood up and slowly walked toward Sophia.
Sophia sensed the looming shadow and began to tremble, tears streaming down her face. She tried to back
away, but Michael wouldn't give her the chance to beg or escape.
He reached out and grabbed her by the neck.
Sophia screamed in terror.
She had never seen Michael like this before, and she shivered, sweat beading on her forehead, her pupils
dilating. In that critical moment, her face pale as a sheet, Sophia knew she had to beg for mercy.
"Michael! Please, letgo. | swear | won't bully Emily again. | won't! | really won't. Please..."
The fear inside her felt like a mountain, crushing her, making it hard to breathe. Seeing
that Michael had no intention of letting go, the police hurried to intervene.
"Mr. Smith! Let go! If you keep this up, something terrible will happen!"
"Yes, Mr. Smith, nothing irreversible has happened yet. It's not too late. Don't do something you'll regret!"
Not too late?
Nothing irreversible?
Michael found their words laughable!
Did they really think they had to wait until Emily was dead to stop Sophia, this vicious woman?
