Chapter 250
-Ava’s POV-
The moment my eyes snapped open, my hands flew to my stomach, instinct kicking in like a force of nature. As if
cradling my belly could somehow protect the tiny lives growing insidefrom whatever damage falling through
an endless void might have done.
“They're fine,” My own voice-her voice-assured me, “We didn’t actually fall. It just felt like we did.”
I let out a breath | didn’t realize | was holding, “Where are we?” | muttered, rubbing my arms against the
unsettling chill in
the air.
“The In-Between.” She stated drily, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

| frowned at her tone and | opened my mouth to clap back at her for stating the obviou and | didn’t appreciate
not knowing the clear path and havingdropped here without any warning. | barely got the first syllable out
before something cut through the eerie stillness around us.
A long, bone-chilling how! and not from a werewolf.
| stopped moving but my other self didn’t. She was besidein an instant, grabbing my arm and haulingup
the rest of the way, “Okay, tto move,” She said, eyes scanning the shifting landscape around us.
| swallowed hard, ears straining as another howl joined the first. Then another. And another.
“We need to find him and get the hell out of here,” She muttered.
“No argument there,” | shot back, glancing around at the never-ending fog and warped, shifting ground beneath
us. “But how exactly are we supposed to do that?”
She gavea look. “I don’t know. You're highly connected to him. | was kind of banking on you instantly feeling
him.”
| stared at her, my brain short-circuiting.
“You don’t have a clear plan?” | shouted, panic seeping into my voice as the howling grew impossibly loud, like it
was coming from everywhere at once.
She turned to look at me, dead serious. “I have one right now.”
A pause.
“Run.”
And just like that, she grabbed my wrist, yankedforward, and we ran. My lungs burned as moved, my feet
barely keeping up with the force yankingforward. The ground beneath us was as unstable as the swirling
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtmist around us, shifting like we were running across something alive-something that didn’t want us here.
The howls only got louder, coming from everywhere and nowhere all at once.
“What the hell is that thing?!” | shouted, breathless, my heart hammering against my ribs.
“I have no idea!” My other self yelled back, which-frankly-was not reassuring.
| turned my head for just a second, trying to see if anything was actually chasing us. My eyes searched the fog,
my heart pounding so hard it felt like it was trying to escape my chest. But there was nothing. No shadowy
figures. No monster lurking just out of reach.

Just the fog.
And that sound.
It wasn’t coming from a creature at all. The realization hitlike a punch to the gur. The howling-it was the
wind. A chill ran down my spine. Wind wasn’t supposed to sound like that.
It was alive, hungry, like it was searching for something for someone and it was getting closer.
My chest tightened, my legs screaming for rest, but stopping wasn’t an option. The ground was changing
beneath our feet, shifting like liquid one second, hard as stone the next. The mist curled around us, thick and
suffocating. It felt like it was watching us.
Then the ground tilted.
It happened so fast | barely had tto react. One second, my feet were pounding against the unstable surface.
The next, the ground beneathvanished.
| let out a sharp scream as | lost my footing, my stomach lurching. My other self let go of my wrist, and in a flash,
| was falling.
No-sliding.
The ground had beca steep slope, smooth and slick like glass, and | was careening down it with no way to
stop myself. My hands scrambled for something-anything-to grab onto, but the mist was thick, the world around
“Avaz!”
Her voice sounded distant already.
“AVA?!”
“I'M HERE!” | screamed back, twisting my body to try and slow my descent. It didn’t work. If anything, | went
faster.
The wind shrieked around me, a wailing cry that sent terror straight through my bones. It wasn’t just noise-it was
pulling at me, trying to dragwith it then the slope ended.
For a single, horrifying second, | was weightless and just as suddenly. | hit the ground hard, pain jolting through
my body as | tumbled forward, rolling until | finally skidded to a stop.
A sharp gasp tore from my throat as | sucked in a breath, my entire body aching. My hands immediately flew to
my belly, panic flooding me. My heart was hammering so hard it felt like it was rattling inside my ribcage.
| pressed my palms flat against my stomach, focusing-listening.
Nothing felt wrong. No pain. No sharp cramps.
A slow, shaky breath of relief then | remembered my other self.
“Hello?!” | shouted, sitting up quickly, my voice echoing through the endless fog, “Ava?! Other self?! Where are
you?!”
Silence.
| pushed myself to my feet, my pulse still erratic. | turned, scanning the mist, but | couldn't see anything. |
couldn’t even see the slope | had fallen from. It was justall alone. It barely had tto form a thought when
the howling started again.
Louder.

It was everywhere, closing in.
| stumbled backward, gripping my arms. The force of it whipped through the air, making my hair whip around my
face. The ground beneathshifted again, warping like liquid.
“No, no, no-
| turned, preparing to run but the wind slammed into me. It wasn’t just air-it was weight, an invisible force that
wrapped around my body like icy fingers, pressing against my skin, pushing me. No pulling me.
I dug my heels into the ground, trying to fight against it.
Panic clawed up my throat. | pushed back with everything | had, trying to move against it. But it was relentless,
shovingforward with a force | couldn't fight.
“Let go ofyou whatever you are!” | shouted.
The wind didn’t care. | planted my feet harder, gritting my teeth. My body was trembling with effort, my legs
shaking. I didn’t know where it was pullingbut | knew wherever it was, | didn’t want to go.
| kept fighting against it but | knew | was losing then out of nowhere, fingers latched onto my wrist-tight,
unyielding.
| gasped as | was yanked backward with so much force | thought my arm was going to pop out of its socket. The
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmwind screamed in protest, a wailing cry that made the very air vibrate around us but the grip onwas
stronger.
And just like that... The wind let go.
| crashed into something solid-someone-arms locking aroundas if daring the storm to try again. My breath
cin ragged gasps, my body trembling from the adrenaline, the fear, the sheer force of whatever the hell just
happened.
And then, through the haze, through the suffocating mist and fading howls-
“Ava.”
That voice. Rough, breathless, laced with something deeper than panic.
| looked up, my pulse stuttering.
Grayson.
His gray, storm-lit eyes burned into mine, his jaw clenched like he had just pulledback from the very edge of
death. His grip onhadn't loosened, not even an inch. As if letting go wasn’t an option. As if he had no
intention of ever losingagain.
He exhaled sharply, his forehead nearly touching mine, “I have never been happier to fall in love with someone
as stubborn as you, Ava Pierce.”
And then-he kissed me.
Not gently. Not carefully.
But like he needed to.
Like he was staking his claim against the wind itself.
