Chapter 244: The Greater Good Astrid's POV The air was thick with unspoken words as we gathered around the table to eat our dinner with the clinking of cutlery punctuating the silence.

Killian sat at the head of the table digging in his food, minding his own business while Giselle sat across me, her tension palpable.

Each bite she took seemed laced with irritation. Her jaw were set tight as if she were trying to bite back her fury The corners of my lips lifted sadistically as I watched the way her hands trembled slightly, betraying the calm facade that she's showing to us.

She's so annoyed and irritated that her anger is showing through her calm exterior.

The sparks in her eyes flickered with resentment and I couldn't help but feel victory in her reaction.

I felt a twisted delight as I saw her struggle to keep herself in check. She's frustrated, but she couldn't do anything about it. I'm in front of her, eating at the stable as her, but she couldn't even voice out her disagreements. I couldn't help but feel thrilled knowing how much my mere presence could affect her this much.

"I'm just curious, why is Astrid joining us for dinner?" Giselle finally broke the silence, her anger had gotten the best of her, failing in keeping her mouth shut. "I mean we could have had her food delivered at the guest house, after all." My eyebrow raised slightly when I heard her words. It seems that Killian forgot to tell her something.

Her words hung in the air, laced with genuine curiosity rather than hostility. Even if Giselle hates me, she will have to be careful aroundespecially in front of Killian.

Even if Killian loves her and he chose her over me, Killian won't be able to choose the sdecision now unless he is fine about facing the Shadowfang Pack's wrath.

Killian leaned back in his chair, a serious expression settling over his face. "Actually, Giselle, Astrid won't be staying in the guest house for the tbeing," he spoke, his tone steady but careful. Giselle's eyebrows shot up in surprise, her fork pausing mid-air. "Oh? is that so?" she replied, a mix of confusion and irritation flashing across her features. "Where will she be staying then?" Killian glanced atbriefly before continuing, his voice measured. "She'll be staying in one of the vacant rooms for a while." Giselle's jaw tightened as she processed Killian's answer. "Well, what's wrong about the guest house?" Giselle spoke in gritted teeth.

I could sense her frustration bubbling just beneath the surface. When I turned to look at Killian, I knew he already anticipated this reaction from her all along.

It seems it is Giselle's idea to keepout of the Packhouse and she's getting angry because Killian broke the agreement they have with each other.

"It's just a temporary measure," Killian explained quickly. "Astrid would stay there once-" "-If the Luna doesn't like my presence here then I could leave," I interrupted, my voice sharp. "I'll tell my father that the Silvermoon Pack could handle themselves and no longer needed my help," I stood up abruptly, the sound of my chair scraping against the flooing in the charged silence.

Before I could turn to leave, Killian's hand shot out, gripping my arm gently but firmly.

"Wait, Astrid," Killian spoke, his tone urgent. "You know we need you. We need your skills to train our warriors, especially with the rogue threats looming. Your presence is crucial." His expression was earnest, conveying the weight of the situation. Giselle's knuckles turned white as her grip on her cutlery tightened, her eyes glaring daggers at Killian's hand on my arm, unwilling to letgo.

I maintained an emotionless facade, determined to make this difficult for Killian to arouse more of Giselle's jealousy.

"But if I'm not welcome-" I started.

"You are welcome," he interrupted, his tone firm yet softening. "As the Pack's Luna, it is Giselle's concern to protect the pack, and that includes making tough decisions." Turning to Giselle, he continued, "Can't you keep your personal matters to yourself? Right now, we are facing threats from the rogues. Let's just all stop thinking about the past and focus on the lives of the people."

I fell silent at his words, feeling the weight of his reasoning. "How easy it was for him to say those things. He was the one who tormented me, he ve was the perpetrator, while I was the one who got hurt. I was the victim who is left to bear the scars that he caused me. For him, moving on might be a choice, but for me, it was a constant reminder, a wound that never fully healed. "Fine, your words are reasonable enough," I responded coldly, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside. "Tomorrow I will start the training. Tell everyone to get ready. The earlier we start the training, the sooner everyone can be prepared." With that, I turned on my heel and left the room, the tension still crackling in the air behind me.

As I walked away, I could feel

Killian's gaze on my back, believing I was here to help because I'd forgotten the past. But how could! ever forget the son f lost because of them? The ache of that loss was a wound that would never heat. I wouldn't find peace without avenging him.

I wasn't here merely to lend my skills; I was here to set the record straight and reclaim what they owedthe weight of my purpose hung heavy in my chest, fueling my steps as I moved away from the table, determined to confront the ghosts of the past while forging a path toward justice.
