Chapter 29 29: Jonathan's concern Shortly after, the dinner cto an end and everyone departed for their respective homes.

Once everyone had left, Eveline went back to her room as well. However, before she could take a step inside, Jonathan called her.

"Going to sleep already?" he asked thoughtfully.

Eveline knew her father wasn't someone who liked speaking his mind, so when he asked her if she was going to sleep, she realized he wanted to talk with her.

Without wasting a second, she shook her head and they both walked inside simultaneously.

Taking the seat on the couch, Jonathan gestured to sit beside him.

Eveline was his precious daughter, someone he loved more than anything in this life. A treasure his wife left before she passed away.

"I wish your mother could be here today. She would have felt more at ease observing everyone's happiness," he said as a glimpse of his wife's smiling face crossed his mind and he smiled.

"Are you missing Mom?" Eveline understood the meaning behind his smile and inquired.

Jonathan wouldn't have to lie in front of his daughter because she knew him too well to fake anything.

"Yes, I do, but after all this time, I was relieved to see my daughter happy today." Eveline frowned in response to Jonathan's words.

"Who told you that I was sad?" Eveline asked, despite knowing her life had never been so fruitful since she married Gabriel. However, that was in the past, which Jonathan wasn't aware of.

Jonathan's smile faltered as he brought his hand to caress Eveline's head.

"I am your father; you were raised by me. Just as you know your father, even your father knows you and I know there is something that's bothering you but you don't want to share. I therefore could not help but ask today after I finally noticed that ssmile on your face." Jonathan was not a strict father who watched over Eveline all the time, but he also did not ignore his daughter when he felt something was not right.

"Has something occurred at school?" inquired Jonathan.

For a brief moment, Eveline sat motionless as she thought back to the event that occurred prior to her rebirth. After learning that Gabriel also believed she was responsible for the conspiracy, she becso depressed that she lost all hope. No matter how much she tried to prove herself, Gabriel wouldn't talk to her and that made her college life depressing.

Even before she knew what love was, Eveline always considered Gabriel her prince charming. Someone who would love her and care for her just like he did before that post leaked.

Gabriel rarely showed emotion, but he never shied away from her. But things changed after that one incident and her heart broke further when he said those hurtful words.

Now that Eveline recalls those words, it only makes her chuckle pitifully to think Gabriel would be someone who would stand by her.

As the corner of her lips curled, Eveline smiled, blinking her tears away.

She was aware that she could confide in Jonathan about anything. He will only becmore depressed as a result and he will wonder what went wrong with his daughter.

'Dad, how I wish to tell you everything that happened. Would you chastise those who hurtif you could only accept that your daughter was reborn after being killed?' "Nothing happened, Dad." Eveline turned her slightly moist eyes away from Jonathan and lied, saying, "I am just worried about my studies." She just couldn't say it, pondered Eveline as she laughed to herself mentally.

Jonathan watched Eveline intently, his frown growing deeper. Someone who had been excelling in her studies brought up her concern about it. Why so? However, his doubt vanished when he remembered how she persuaded Richard to allow Gabriel to tutor her.

Jonathan inhaled deeply before laughing helplessly and giving her a gentle pat on the head. "You worry about your studies, but don't you think you are one of the best students whom everyone seeks help from?" he asked.

Eveline couldn't help but pout upon hearing Jonathan's playful remark.

He thought it was funny that Eveline was worried about her academics considering that she had been Aspen College's top student for three years running.

People might assanything, but Jonathan was aware that his daughter was gifted with the ability to pick up new information rapidly. Something she inherited from both her parents, so he was sure studies couldn't be a bane for her. Then what was she trying to hide? "Well, I am sure Gabriel will be an excellent coach and he will help you learn everything," Jonathan's words caused Eveline to look at him in disbelief.

"It is likely on your mind how I discovered it. But before you get mad at me, letclarify that I did math stalk you Professor Beckham toldabout his schedule and expressed regret for the adjustments." Jonathan explained coming clean before Eveline.

Eveline's frown gradually vanished as she cto believe in her father. She was aware that Jonathan wouldn never keep an eye on her, but she still needed to exercise caution to avoid being discovered by the professor, who might wind up learning details about her life. "Anyway, I believe you should take a nap and stop worrying about such unimportant things. Even if your grade drops this semester, you know your father will not hold it against you." Giving her an assuring smile, Jonathan left her room.

While speaking with Jonathan, Eveline felt somewhat at ease, but guilt was always nagging at her heart. She was not sure, though, if she would ever feel comfortable talking to him about it.

Heaving out a deep breath, Eveline decided to get changed before going to bed.

Tomorrow she is supposed to meet Alex; however, she wasn't sure if they could talk after the classes, or if, just like today, Gabriel would force her to cwith him.

Eveline was unable to foresee anything at all now that Gabriel was acting completely differently, and she was compelled to speak with Alex.

She took a moment to consider her concern, then typed something on the phone and pressed the send button. "I can't risk anything," she said, tossing her phone aside and entering the bathroom.
