Chapter 67 Lindy was in high spirits. She never had a daughter of her own, but her daughter-in-law had filled that gap in her heart perfectly.
She ended up picking out two more outfits-it truly felt like a successful shopping spree.
Across the store, Mrs. Lloyd caught sight of herself in the mirror. Though she was dressed head-to-toe in designer labels, standing next to Lindy, she looked like a nouveau riche wannabe. There was no denying it; her taste simply couldn't compare.
Especially when it cto the two outfits Suzan had chosen for her gaudy, mismatched colors that made her head ache just from looking at them.
Suddenly, even Suzan started to grate on her nerves.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtSuzan noticed Mrs. Lloyd's darkening expression and wisely kept quiet.
Inwardly, Suzan fumed. This old woman is impossible to please.
But when she thought of Mitchell, she swallowed her frustration.
Lindy and Effie left the store chatting and laughing, and Mrs. Lloyd was left fuming. Effie was really becoming a thorn in her side. How did that girl manage to charm Lindy so easily? Mrs. Lloyd spun around, tossed the clothes in her hands back onto the rack, and stormed off in a huff.
Suzan didn't dare say a word. She'd hoped to curry favor with Mrs. Lloyd, but somehow she'd only made things worse.
This was all Effie's fault. If she hadn't run into her, none of this would have happened. What rotten luck. The of the jewelry competition had finally faded.
A few days later, Effie carefully prepared her résumé and submitted it to Etheridge & Co. Jewels.
She didn't have to wait long for a response: an interview invitation landed in her inbox.
On the day of her interview, Effie dressed smartly in a crisp, understated business suit. She carried her portfoof designs as she entered the headquarters of The Etheridge Group.
At the lobby, she walked up to the front desk with a polite smile. "Good morning, I'm here to interview for a designer position." The receptionist gave Effie a once-over, her eyes betraying a hint of disdain.
Effie stood with quiet confidence, her outfit intentionally simple for the occasion.
"Do you have an appointment?" the receptionist asked.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"Yes, I've already spoken with HR." "Alright, then. Please wait here." Just then, the sharp click of heels echoed across the marble floor. A woman swept into the lobby: a striking figure in a fitted white skirt and a red silk blouse, her makeup flawless, her curves accentuated with every step. She moved as if she owned the place.
The receptionist straightened up and greeted her respectfully, "Morning, Nelly." "Morning," Nelly replied coolly. She gave Effie a cursory glance, her tone dripping with condescension. "Since when do we let just anyone in here?" "Nelly, this lady's here to interview for a designer role." Nelly snorted. "Is the bar really so low now? Just anybody can walk in and apply? What's HR thinking, inviting every random stray for an interview?" With that, she sashayed off, exuding attitude with every step.
Effie couldn't help but let out a small, incredulous laugh. So this is the corporate world ruthless NOcompetitive, and full of intrigue.
Landing this job was going to be a challenge. But she was ready for it.
She wasn't snaïve fresh graduate, after all.
Once the receptionist made the call upstairs, Effie took the elevator up for her interview.
Her interviewer turned out to be the head of the jewelry design department, a sharp no-nonsense woman in her forties. She paged through Effie's portfolio, her brow furrowing in concentration. The met a sharpno-nonsense content is on novelenglish.net!
"Your designs are very creative," the director finally said, piercing gaze. "Espoling up with a these preces here-the lines are fluid, and the style is distinctive."
