Chapter 400

Verity took a sip and her eyes widened with a sudden realization. She looked over at Calliope, excitement

evident on her face. She gave Calliope a knowing wink.

Calliope popped a piece of roast beef into her mouth and nodded back at Verity.

Verity covered her mouth with her hand, glancing from Yvette to Fleur with a mischievous, almost gossipy

expression.

"So, it's true, huh? Fleur, are you sure she's telling the truth? Has she even been to the doctor? Did you see her

ultrasound report? Have you spoken to the doctor personally?

What if she's faking it and then stages a miscarriage or something? Oh, wouldn't that be a scandal!"

Yvette's face soured, and she shot a look at Verity, "Verity, | really am pregnant. If you don't believe me, | can

show you the hospital report! I've just been too busy to get everything sorted out with the clinic. Once the

wedding is over, I'll take care of all that!"

After saying this, Yvette glanced at Calliope again, suspicion clouding her eyes.

Did Calliope know something?

Why did it seem like she knew everything, even the things Yvette had planned secretly?

The thought made Yvette's skin crawl.

It couldn't be possible. Calliope wasn't in her head, so how could she know what Yvette was thinking?

"Verity, if you keep suggesting things like this, and something happens to the baby, I'll hold you responsible,"

Fleur chimed in, her voice tight with frustration.

Especially as Eamon, sitting quietly, showed no signs of joy at the news of a new addition to the family. His calm

demeanor made her feel uneasy.

That was her grandchild! Shouldn't the news of the Baker family having a new generation be a cause for

celebration? Even if she wasn't. thrilled about Yvette, at least ve was carrying on the family line.

"Wow, Fleur, that's a bit much," Verity replied, feigning shock. "I didn't do anything to her. I'm just saying, her

family's not exactly well-off, and she might be trying to pull a fast one on you for sbenefit! What if she's

really tricking you? What then?"

"Verity, I've never done anything to you. Why are you so suspicious of me?" Yvette snapped, her frustration

bubbling over.

She hadn't done anything wrong, but Verity was always siding with Calliope, like sovereager puppy, barking

at every word Calliope uttered.

"Oh, I'm just saying!" Verity laughed, "I've been watching too many of those soap operas lately. Makes everyone

seem like they're up to something."

Yvette fell silent, unable to find a response.

Gideon sat next to Yvette, casting a disapproving glance at his mother before his gaze drifted to Calliope.

Even the news of Yvette's pregnancy

hadn't stirred Calliope at all. It

seemed like she truly didn't care

about him anymore. This realization

tightened something in his chest, filling him with regret.

"Alright, let's eat," Eamon finally spoke up. "Pregnancy is good news, but the wedding is tomorrow, and it will be

exhausting. Take care of yourself."

No one dared to argue further, and they all turned their attention back to their plates.

Calliope continued to eat quietly, her movements graceful as she occasionally peeled shrimp for her grandfather.

Gideon kept stealing glances at Calliope, then back at Yvette, noticing more and more how different the two

women were.
